Power dressing is a style that was developed in the 80s to help women establish power and authority in a male dominated world. Book writer and image consultant John T. Molloy suggested women dressed like their male colleagues to establish egual respect and power at work.
The first male inspired suit for women, Le Smoking, was introduced by Yves Saint Laurent in 1966. Though it was not socially acceptable for the time, to wear pants as formal wear.
A suit is sophisticated. A suit can make you feel strong and capable. It is a perfect tool for the business minded woman. It seperates the woman from the girl.
A well fitted suit makes you look like you are in control- therefor you will feel in control. You feel the way you look.
Suits are not only for the working hours. If you need to feel confident, strong and smart outside of work, you can get these qualities by wearing a suit. Just dress it up or down depending on the circumstances. You will gain credibility by dressing for the circumstances. At a casual event you can use elements of the suit, like the blazer, and dress it casual with a T-shirt.
